Neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy

Chemotherapy given before surgery to shrink a tumour (neoadjuvant), or after it to lower the chance of the cancer coming back (adjuvant).

Pending doctor check

What it is

Cancer medicines are given in cycles, usually by drip, over a few months. Before surgery, they can make a tumour smaller and easier to remove. After surgery, they treat any cancer cells left behind. Adjuvant therapy can also mean radiation, hormone or targeted therapy after surgery.

Who needs it

People with cancers such as breast, bowel, stomach, food pipe, bladder and lung cancer, as advised by the cancer team.

Typical hospital stay
Usually given as a day patient. Your hospital confirms it for your case.
Recovery time
Tiredness and other side effects usually ease a few weeks after the last cycle.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.
