Brachial plexus and nerve surgery

Surgery to repair the nerves from the neck to the arm, after injury or at birth, to bring back movement to the shoulder, arm and hand.

Pending doctor check

What it is

The brachial plexus is the bundle of nerves that controls the arm. Under a microscope, the surgeon repairs damaged nerves, uses nerve grafts, or moves working nerves or muscles to restore movement. Timing matters: nerves recover best when repaired within months of the injury.

Who needs it

Adults with arm weakness or paralysis after a road accident or fall, and babies with arm weakness from a difficult birth (birth brachial plexus palsy).

Typical hospital stay
Usually 3 to 5 days in hospital. Your hospital confirms it for your case.
Recovery time
Nerves grow slowly, so movement returns over 6 months to 2 years, with long-term physiotherapy.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.

Questions about this treatment

Is it too late if the injury was a year ago?

Not always. Even when nerve repair is no longer possible, nerve or muscle transfers can still help.

When should a baby be seen?

As early as possible, ideally within the first few months, so the surgeon can follow recovery and operate at the right time.
