Capsule endoscopy and small bowel endoscopy

A swallowed camera capsule, or a long endoscope, to look inside the small bowel where ordinary scopes cannot reach.

Pending doctor check

What it is

In capsule endoscopy you swallow a pill-sized camera that takes pictures as it passes. Balloon or spiral enteroscopy uses a long scope to look and treat, such as stopping bleeding.

Who needs it

People with unexplained bleeding or anaemia, suspected Crohn's disease, or small bowel tumours.

Typical hospital stay
No hospital stay for a capsule; a day case or one night for enteroscopy. Your hospital confirms it for your case.
Recovery time
Most people return to normal activity the same or next day.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.
