CAR-T cell therapy (adoptive cell therapy)

The patient's own immune cells are collected, changed in a laboratory to recognise their cancer, and given back by drip. Used for some leukaemias, lymphomas and myeloma.

Pending doctor check

What it is

White blood cells called T cells are collected from the patient's blood. In a laboratory they are given a new receptor (CAR) that helps them find and attack the cancer. After a short course of chemotherapy, the cells are given back through a drip, where they multiply and fight the cancer.

Who needs it

Adults and some children with certain leukaemias, lymphomas or multiple myeloma that have come back or not responded to other treatment.

Typical hospital stay
Usually about 2 weeks in hospital after the cells are given. Your hospital confirms it for your case.
Recovery time
Plan to stay near the hospital for about 4 weeks after the infusion, as side effects such as fever can appear in this time. Most people go home within 1 to 2 months.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.
