Epilepsy surgery

Surgery to remove or disconnect the part of the brain where seizures start, when medicines do not control them.

Pending doctor check

What it is

Tests including video EEG and MRI find where seizures start. The surgeon then removes that small area, or places a device that calms the brain's signals, such as a vagus nerve stimulator.

Who needs it

People whose seizures continue despite trying two or more epilepsy medicines.

Typical hospital stay
Usually 5 to 7 days, after testing. Your hospital confirms it for your case.
Recovery time
Most people return to normal activity in 4 to 6 weeks. Epilepsy medicines usually continue for a while.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.
