Head and neck cancer surgery

Surgery for cancers of the mouth, tongue, throat, voice box, salivary glands and sinuses, saving speech and swallowing wherever possible.

Pending doctor check

What it is

The tumour is removed, often with the lymph nodes in the neck. Where it suits the case, it is done through the mouth with a laser or a robot (transoral surgery), avoiding large cuts. When the voice box is involved, voice-preserving surgery is chosen where possible, and voice rehabilitation is offered when it is not. Reconstruction can rebuild the area in the same operation.

Who needs it

People with cancer of the mouth, tongue, cheek, throat, voice box (larynx), salivary glands, nose or sinuses.

Typical hospital stay
Usually 3 to 10 days in hospital, longer if reconstruction is needed. Your hospital confirms it for your case.
Recovery time
Usually 3 to 6 weeks. Speech and swallowing therapy may be needed. Radiotherapy is sometimes given afterwards.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.

Questions about this treatment

Will I be able to speak and eat normally?

What is transoral robotic surgery?

Surgery done through the open mouth using robotic arms or a laser, so there is no cut on the face or neck for the tumour itself.
