Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

A form of IVF in which a single sperm is injected directly into each egg, often used when there are problems with sperm.

Pending doctor check

What it is

It follows the same steps as IVF, but instead of mixing eggs and sperm, an embryologist injects one sperm into each egg under a microscope. Sperm can also be collected directly from the testis when there is none in the semen.

Who needs it

Couples where the man has a low sperm count, poorly moving sperm or no sperm in the semen, or where IVF has not led to fertilisation before.

Typical hospital stay
No hospital stay: all steps are day procedures.
Recovery time
As for IVF: about 3 to 4 weeks in India for one cycle.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.

Questions about this treatment

What if there is no sperm in the semen?

Sperm can often be taken from the testis in a minor procedure and used for ICSI.

Is ICSI more successful than IVF?

Not in general. It helps mainly when the problem is with the sperm.
