Laryngectomy (voice box removal)

Removal of part or all of the voice box (larynx), to treat cancer of the throat.

Pending doctor check

What it is

In a partial laryngectomy, only the affected part is removed and the voice is often kept. In a total laryngectomy, the whole voice box is removed and the person breathes through an opening in the neck. Speech can be restored with a voice valve or other methods.

Who needs it

People with cancer of the voice box, or cancer that has come back after radiation therapy.

Typical hospital stay
Usually 10 to 14 days. Your hospital confirms it for your case.
Recovery time
Speech and swallowing therapy starts in hospital. Plan for about 4 to 6 weeks in India.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.
