Liver transplant

An operation that replaces a failing liver with all or part of a healthy liver from a donor.

Pending doctor check

What it is

The diseased liver is removed and replaced with a healthy one. In a living donor transplant, a family member gives part of their liver; both parts grow back to near full size within weeks. In a deceased donor transplant, a whole liver is used.

Who needs it

People with liver failure from cirrhosis, hepatitis, alcohol or fatty liver disease, some liver cancers, or some rare inherited conditions, in adults and in children.

Typical hospital stay
About 21 days at Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital. Your hospital confirms it for your case.
Recovery time
Plan to stay in India for about 2 to 3 months in total. Most people return to normal daily life within 3 to 6 months, and take anti-rejection medicines for life.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.
