Plasmapheresis (plasma exchange)

A machine removes the liquid part of the blood (plasma) and replaces it, to clear harmful antibodies or proteins.

Pending doctor check

What it is

Blood is drawn through a line, the plasma is separated and replaced with donor plasma or a protein solution, and the blood is returned. Each session takes 2 to 3 hours, often repeated over days.

Who needs it

People with some immune, nerve, blood and kidney conditions, such as Guillain-Barré syndrome, myasthenia gravis and TTP, and some transplant patients.

Typical hospital stay
Depends on the condition; often given during a hospital stay. Your hospital confirms it for your case.
Recovery time
Most people feel tired for a few hours after a session.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.
