Radiation therapy (external beam, EBRT)

Treatment that uses carefully aimed high-energy beams to destroy cancer cells in one part of the body.

Pending doctor check

What it is

A planning scan maps the tumour, and a machine then aims beams at it from several angles, sparing the healthy tissue around it as much as possible. Each session takes minutes and is painless. Treatment is usually given on weekdays for one to several weeks.

Who needs it

People with many kinds of cancer, on its own or with surgery and chemotherapy, and sometimes to ease pain from cancer that has spread.

Typical hospital stay
Usually no hospital stay: you come in for each short session.
Recovery time
Tiredness and skin soreness in the treated area are common and usually settle within a few weeks after the course.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.
