Reconstructive microsurgery

Rebuilding parts of the body after injury or cancer surgery by moving tissue, with its blood supply, from elsewhere in the body.

Pending doctor check

What it is

Skin, muscle or bone is moved from one part of the body to another, and its tiny blood vessels are joined under a microscope so it survives. It is used to cover wounds, rebuild the face, breast or jaw after cancer surgery, and save severely injured legs that might otherwise be amputated.

Who needs it

People with large wounds or missing tissue after accidents, burns, infections or cancer surgery, including severe leg injuries.

Typical hospital stay
Usually 5 to 10 days in hospital. Your hospital confirms it for your case.
Recovery time
Usually 4 to 8 weeks, longer for leg reconstruction, with physiotherapy.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.

Questions about this treatment

Can my leg be saved after a bad injury?

Often, even after severe injuries. The team assesses the bone, skin and blood supply to decide.

Will there be a scar where the tissue is taken from?

Yes, but the surgeon chooses a place where it is least noticed and least affects function.
