The infected inside of a tooth is cleaned and sealed, so the tooth can be kept instead of pulled out.

Under local anaesthetic, the infected or damaged pulp inside the tooth is removed, the canals are cleaned and shaped, and then filled and sealed. A crown is often placed afterwards to protect the tooth.
Who needs it
People with a badly decayed, cracked or infected tooth that causes pain or swelling.

- The tooth may be tender for a few days. Most people go back to normal eating within a week.
