Spinal cord and nerve stimulation

A small implanted device that sends mild electrical pulses to the spinal cord or a nerve to block long-term pain.

Pending doctor check

What it is

Thin wires are placed near the spinal cord (or the nerves at the back of the head, for occipital nerve stimulation) and connected to a small battery under the skin. A trial comes first to check it helps.

Who needs it

People with long-term back or leg pain after spine surgery, nerve pain, or severe headaches that other treatments have not helped.

Typical hospital stay
Usually 1 to 2 days. Your hospital confirms it for your case.
Recovery time
Most people return to light activity within 2 weeks and avoid bending and lifting for about 6 weeks.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.
