Varicose vein treatment (laser and sclerotherapy)

Bulging, painful leg veins closed from the inside with heat or medicine, through a pinhole, without open surgery.

Pending doctor check

What it is

Guided by ultrasound, a thin tube is passed into the faulty vein and heat (laser or radiofrequency) or a medical glue closes it. Blood then flows through healthy veins. Smaller veins can be treated with injections (sclerotherapy). Deep vein clots (DVT) can also be treated through a catheter.

Who needs it

People with varicose veins causing pain, swelling, skin changes or ulcers, and some people with deep vein thrombosis.

Typical hospital stay
Usually a day procedure, or 1 night in hospital. Your hospital confirms it for your case.
Recovery time
Most people walk straight away and return to normal activity in a few days, wearing a support stocking for a week or two.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.
