Roux-en-Y gastric bypass

Surgery that makes a small stomach pouch and connects it further down the small intestine, so less food is eaten and absorbed.

Pending doctor check

What it is

By keyhole surgery, a small pouch is made at the top of the stomach and joined directly to a lower part of the small intestine, bypassing the rest of the stomach. Less food fits, and fewer calories are absorbed.

Who needs it

Adults with severe obesity, especially those with type 2 diabetes or bad acid reflux, after other methods have not worked.

Typical hospital stay
Usually 2 to 4 days in hospital. Your hospital confirms it for your case.
Recovery time
Most people return to desk work in 2 weeks, with a staged diet over about 6 weeks.

What affects the cost

Every patient gets their own estimate, in writing, from the hospital. These are the things that move it.

  1. 01

    The hospital and the city

Room types, equipment and running costs differ from one hospital to the next.

  2. 02

    The doctor

A surgeon's fee follows their experience and how complex the operation is.

  3. 03

    The technique and the materials

Keyhole or robotic surgery, and the make of any implant, can change the price.

  4. 04

    Your health

Other conditions, earlier treatment and the tests you need before treatment all count.

  5. 05

    How long you stay

Days in hospital, any time in intensive care and the weeks you spend recovering in India.

  6. 06

    What else you need

Physiotherapy, medicines to take home and follow-up visits are added only if your doctor asks for them.

The estimate is not final until the doctor has examined you in India. If anything changes, we explain it before you agree to it.
